About one year ago my interest in photography made a huge
jump from the casual iPhone photographer to using a Nikon D3000. I had always
enjoyed taking pictures and capturing moments in time, but I didn’t think
photography would be something I would fall in love with or even become one of
my favorite hobbies.
My boyfriend’s mom asked me if I would go out and take some
pictures of her daughter (to add to the wall of family pictures); I said yes. I
wasn’t sure what to expect since I had never done a photo shoot before. I found
some poses for her to do on pinterest, googled how to properly work my camera,
found a nice location, and I was ready. We went to a gorgeous field about an
hour before sunset, and if you know me, you know that I am obsessed with the beauty
a sunset holds. I began thinking that this photography thing wasn’t so bad;
it’s actually pretty exciting. I posed her and snapped lots of pictures. The photo
shoot was filled with laughter, small talk, and capturing her beauty through a lens.
After the sun had set it started raining, so we headed back to the house where
we went though all the pictures and showed her family. Everyone loved them, and
I was glad the photo shoot was a success. When I was driving home from their
house, I realized that photo shoots are so much more than just taking pictures,
editing them, and giving the finished product. They are about forming
relationships, laughter, and the true inner beauty that shines through the photographs.
That one photo shoot ended up sparking 24 more, from
families to newborns. I am overwhelmed with the amount of support I have been
given in my photography career by my family, friends, and even people I don’t
know. Every photo shoot has been special to me and I have been able to form
amazing relationships with those who have allowed me to capture their beauty. I
can’t wait to see where photography takes me in the future!
